About the position

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Public Information Officer (PIO) in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This role is crucial for providing accurate and strategic information to the Director's Office, media, and the public, serving as the main liaison between the department and the media. The PIO will manage communication efforts, develop media strategies, and enhance public awareness of the department's services and goals. This position requires expertise in media relations, public communication, and supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cohesive and effective communication and public relations efforts supporting the Department's mission.
• Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate comprehensive communication programs, including media and public affairs.
• Provide proactive advice and consultation to senior leaders on public information matters.
• Develop weekly media packets and respond to statewide communication topics.
• Engage with media contacts on emergency communications and coordinate regional news efforts.
• Assist in the development and execution of the Department's statewide communication plan.
• Write and contribute to the Wyoming Wildlife Magazine and develop monthly e-newsletters.
• Coordinate with various teams to develop communication and marketing campaigns for recruitment.
• Supervise the statewide information specialist and the Wyoming Wildlife Magazine staff.
• Manage workflow processes and budget related to media and public information communications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
• 1-2 years of progressive work experience in Public Relations or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience communicating with the press and media.
• Strong strategic planning and management skills.
• Knowledge of communication principles and public relations techniques.
