About the position

The Public Information Officer (Senior Planner) at Volunteer Maine plays a crucial role in supporting the Maine Commission for Community Service by developing and implementing strategic communications plans. This position focuses on enhancing the visibility and effectiveness of volunteer programs and services in Maine, ensuring that information is effectively communicated to constituents and stakeholders. The officer will also oversee outreach initiatives and may supervise interns, working under limited supervision to achieve the Commission's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Research assigned areas to assess existing situations and recommend communication strategies.
  • Draft annual work plans for the board Communications Task Force based on research and recommended strategies.
  • Implement approved communication strategies with guidance from the Communications Task Force.
  • Develop and track metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Administer projects related to Commission events and activities, including recruitment support for AmeriCorps and Maine Senior Corps programs.
  • Create various media materials (videos, images, web content, news releases) for communication and education purposes.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of information releases to raise awareness of service year opportunities and Commission activities.
  • Support the Maine Volunteer Foundation by drafting and implementing policies to achieve the foundation's annual work plan.
  • Oversee the work of interns and contractors to ensure timely and proper completion of tasks.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Four (4) years of related work experience, with equivalent experience substitutable for education on a year-for-year basis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public communications work.
  • Knowledge of government and nonprofit sector functions.
  • Familiarity with digital media and audience targeting techniques.
