About the position

The Public Information Officer (Senior Planner) for Volunteer Maine is responsible for supporting the Maine Commission for Community Service by developing and implementing strategic communications plans. This role involves researching and communicating information about federal and Commission initiatives to constituents, managing outreach and recruitment for National Service programs, and overseeing the work of interns. The position aims to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of volunteer services in Maine.

Responsibilities

  • Research assigned areas to assess existing situations.
  • Recommend and implement strategies for communicating with key constituents.
  • Draft annual work plans for board Communications Task Force consideration.
  • Implement approved strategies with guidance from the Communications Task Force.
  • Develop and track metrics to evaluate communication strategies.
  • Administer projects to ensure compliance with established procedures and optimize resource use.
  • Plan and implement Commission events and activities, including recruitment support for AmeriCorps and Maine Senior Corps programs.
  • Create media content for communication and education purposes.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of information releases to raise awareness of service opportunities and Commission activities.
  • Support the Maine Volunteer Foundation by drafting and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the work of interns and contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Four years of related work experience, or equivalent experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of government and nonprofit sector functions.
  • Experience in public communications work.
  • Familiarity with print, broadcast, and digital media.
  • Understanding of journalism practices and audience targeting.
  • Skills in media, graphic, and visual design techniques.
