About The Position

The Public Information Specialist for the State of Florida's Department of Transportation is responsible for managing communications with the media and the public regarding district operations. Requirements

  • A master's degree in communications or English can substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English.
  • Knowledge of media production and communication techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to external inquiries from the media and the public regarding district operations.
  • Serve as the District Spokesperson on transportation-related issues in the absence of the Public Information Director.
  • Research and respond to inquiries via telephone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for public dissemination, including news releases and fact sheets.
  • Design and disseminate electronic and printed media to communicate district activities.
  • Maintain media contact lists and project files.
  • Write and post safety-related information on social media platforms.
  • Review and edit communications materials to ensure adherence to the organization's style guide.
  • Assist in the coordination of public meetings and special events.
  • Compile news clips for internal dissemination and maintain office files.
