About the position

As an Information Technology Specialist (Information Security) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the agency's information systems and data. The CDC is a global leader in public health and health promotion, and every employee contributes to public health emergency management. This position is part of a Direct Hire initiative, allowing for expedited hiring processes for various IT roles across multiple locations, including Anchorage, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. The role is temporary and part-time, with a salary range from $59,966 to $186,854, depending on the grade level and experience. In this position, you will provide expert technical guidance and oversight of information technology policies and practices. Your responsibilities will include assessing security risks and vulnerabilities, managing cloud environments, and advising senior leadership on the latest IT technologies. You will also develop threat models, security requirements for APIs, and execute strategies for IT quality assurance. Additionally, you will prepare internal and external reports, analyze complex operational issues, and support the development of security policies and procedures. The CDC emphasizes the importance of a drug-free workplace and may require drug testing for this position. Responsibilities

  • Providing expert technical guidance, interpretation, and implementation oversight of applicable information technology policies, processes, and practices.
  • Assessing security risks and vulnerabilities; building, testing, and recommending cloud security solutions; and managing cloud environments in accordance with CDC approved cybersecurity guidelines.
  • Advising senior leadership on the latest IT technologies to aid in decision making.
  • Developing threat models and security requirements for Application Programming Interfaces (API).
  • Developing procedures, awareness programs, and supporting templates.
  • Developing and executing strategies for information technology quality assurance (QA).
  • Preparing internal and external reports that may include providing audit liaison support to IT operations.
  • Analyzing short, medium, and long-range projects for solutions of complex operational or policy issues in areas such as information security, information security reporting, systems development life cycle, quality assurance, etc.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
