About the position

The Public Policy & Commodity Division (PPCD) Intern at Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies is a paid rotational internship designed for motivated students. This fourteen-week program offers a comprehensive learning experience across various departments, including Claims, Agency, Marketing, and Underwriting. Interns will receive training from managers, work on diverse projects, and present a Capstone Presentation at the end of the internship to showcase their experiences and contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist PPCD staff and Regional Managers with planning local District Policy Development meetings and provide on-site assistance.
  • Explore and develop recommendations for utilizing online and other communication tools for engaging members in policy discussion.
  • Assist staff in entering participant data into the organization's database.
  • Assist PPCD departments with planning Advisory/Task Force meetings and provide on-site assistance.
  • Assist PPCD staff with ongoing or new programs/issues across the Division, including research on relevant topics/issues and program promotion.
  • Review material related to policy, legislation, and politics on Michigan Farm Bureau's Website and offer recommendations for improvements.
  • Travel and assist with events and programs throughout the state using a company fleet vehicle or mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle.
  • Assist legislative counsels with member engagement opportunities at the state Capitol on key legislative issues.
  • Process and distribute communication, attend company functions, and complete other responsibilities in the Public Policy & Commodity Division as assigned.
  • Assist with member inquiries.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a college or university with a declared major course of study.
  • Office experience preferred.
  • Interest and experience with policy, politics, and the legislative process.
  • Experience in legislative/historical research and agriculture.
