About the position

The Public Relations Account Director at Spark is a leadership role focused on managing client accounts in the AI and deep tech sectors. This position involves strategic planning, media relations, and team management to deliver exceptional results for clients. The director will work closely with the Practice Group Leader to oversee account activities, drive new business pitches, and ensure high-quality service delivery while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts and pitch new business as a trusted partner to the Practice Group Leader (PGL).
  • Manage teams to deliver results for a portfolio of clients, ensuring deadlines and quality expectations are met.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients, representing the PGL when necessary.
  • Develop and execute PR strategies and proposals for various accounts.
  • Maintain strong media relationships to deliver exceptional media results for clients.
  • Coordinate team resources and manage workflow effectively.
  • Monitor and manage budgets, invoicing, and time management for accounts.
  • Communicate proactively about team budgets and work with PLM to upsell clients.
  • Define success metrics and seek opportunities to showcase results to clients.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior staff and support their professional development.
  • Lead new business pitches, coordinating resources from research to presentation.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of progressive experience in public relations or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of AI and complex tech concepts.
  • Extensive media relations experience, particularly with top-tier outlets.
  • Proven ability to drive new business and manage client relationships effectively.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Prior agency experience is preferred.
  • Ability to transition from strategic planning to hands-on execution as needed.
  • Experience in evaluating campaign results against objectives.
