About the position

Savannah State University is seeking an open-rank faculty member in Public Relations and New Media for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, starting August 1, 2025. The role involves teaching undergraduate courses in various areas of public relations and strategic communication, with a focus on multimedia approaches. The ideal candidate will also contribute to the department's advancement in AI and virtual/augmented realities, and will be expected to maintain research productivity and provide service to the department and university.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in public relations and strategic communication.
  • Develop and deliver curriculum on strategic communication campaigns, social media, data visualization, and crisis management.
  • Support the department's ACEJMC accreditation efforts.
  • Engage in research productivity and scholarly activities.
  • Provide service to the department through student advisement and participation in committees.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to enhance the learning environment.

Requirements

  • An earned MA, MFA, or Ph.D. in Mass Communications or a closely related field by August 1, 2025.
  • Strong technology experience in teaching and using technology in journalism.
  • Proficiency in video editing and Adobe software.
  • Experience managing multi-platform environments in journalism.
  • Ability to teach graphic design, layout, and data visualization for various media.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching video production and scriptwriting courses.
  • Professional experience in public relations.
