About the position

The Public Relations & Communications Manager is responsible for enhancing the reputation of Port Aransas and driving economic growth through effective communication strategies. This role involves working closely with the marketing team to ensure consistent messaging that aligns with brand values, producing compelling marketing content, managing media relations, and supporting email marketing efforts. The position requires strong communication skills and a passion for promoting Port Aransas as a premier family beach destination.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Draft press releases, media pitches, and other written materials to promote key initiatives, events, and announcements.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization to travel journalists and local media.
  • Coordinate media visits and press events, managing logistics and ensuring positive media coverage.
  • Monitor media coverage and create reports to track the effectiveness of PR campaigns.
  • Create and maintain a branded destination media kit.
  • Attend media tradeshows and missions to develop and maintain relationships with media partners.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Communications Director to develop engaging content for various communication channels.
  • Coordinate the organization's email newsletter communication strategy and report on effectiveness.
  • Ensure effective communication with local tourism partners and community stakeholders.
  • Represent Port Aransas at community events and industry tradeshows, seeking speaking roles for brand-building.
  • Cultivate and manage successful relationships with vendors as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, public relations, journalism, communications, or related field from a four-year college or university.
  • 3+ years of related experience in public relations or communications.
  • Excellent writing, reporting, and editing skills with demonstrated experience.
  • Experience working with email distribution software and list management.
  • Proficiency with popular social media channels and graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe products.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in storytelling and media consumption to stay abreast of current trends.
