About the position

The Public Relations Manager will lead media and public relations efforts across M&T Bank's footprint in the Tri-State area, focusing on enhancing the bank's reputation and supporting its business lines. This role involves strategic communication with external stakeholders, managing media relationships, and executing public relations campaigns to promote the bank's policies, products, and community initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain close relationships with relevant media contacts and outlets within the region.
  • Develop and execute multiple proactive public relations campaigns and communications projects aimed at bolstering the company's reputation, driving business, and supporting community partners.
  • Understand local media dynamics of each region to inform strategy and execution.
  • Serve as on-the-ground communications support for M&T Bank at events across the region, including content capture and story packaging.
  • Serve as communications counsel to area bank executives, business leads, and company spokespeople, including media training and speechwriting.
  • Work with internal and external teams to develop, coordinate, and implement public relations and communications plans for bank-related activities.
  • Develop appropriate messages, strategies, and materials for various target audiences, including media, customers, and influencers.
  • Identify proactive media opportunities and coordinate strategies to promote and protect M&T Bank's reputation.
  • Counsel management on communications strategies when issues threaten the bank's reputation.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with stakeholders within the bank, industry, community, and media.
  • Monitor, measure, and report all media coverage of the bank, evaluating the success of earned media placements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience, or a combined minimum of 9 years' higher education and/or work experience including 5 years' relevant experience with 3 years in a strategic PR role.
