About the position

The Public Relations Manager will oversee external communications and media functions for the IAPP, ensuring consistent representation and messaging. This role involves developing a spokesperson matrix, coordinating media relations, and managing public relations efforts to promote IAPP's offerings. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication skills and agency experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development and execution of IAPP communications plan; ensure consistency in IAPP's messaging across external facing messaging and media reporting
• Coordinate and develop media relations programs to promote the IAPP's products and offerings; optimize opportunities for engagement
• Develop spokesperson matrix for media opportunities and in-person or virtual events
• Submit speaker proposals and track events which IAPP should be represented
• Brainstorm creative materials and ideas to use in social and print media; utilize for publicity of IAPP offerings
• Develop press releases, advisories, pitches and talking points when needed
• Collaborate effectively with multiple teams within the IAPP
• Manage and coordinate interviews with media and IAPP spokespeople
• Oversee two public relation firms with Director of Communications
• Manage reporter inquiries

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, English or a related field
• 4-7 years of experience in public relations or communications
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to relate to global audiences with multiple dimensions of diversity
• Experience implementing communications strategies and using data to drive content strategies
• Proficient in all MS Office applications
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with keen attention to detail
• Proficiency and comfort with technology, particularly social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
• Ability to work independently on routine tasks
