About the position

The Public Relations Manager at MediaSource is responsible for overseeing the quality and success of public relations initiatives, managing client relationships, and mentoring junior staff. This hybrid role combines in-office collaboration with remote work, focusing on strategic communications that align with client goals and media trends. The manager will cultivate media relationships to secure impactful coverage and lead a team to achieve high-quality results in public relations campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Influence strategic direction and create high impact deliverables.
  • Plan, organize, and execute strategic communications plans aligned with MediaSource and client goals.
  • Ensure quality standards at a project level, focusing on earning impactful media results.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with press members to achieve results for clients.
  • Navigate the needs of reporters and brand leadership to deliver effective coverage.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and establish best practices for media results.
  • Lead meetings and organize the team to drive departmental progress.
  • Act as the main contact for larger clients/projects, providing guidance to collaborators.
  • Manage up to three direct reports and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Coach team members, driving accountability and removing barriers to success.
  • Understand budget models and make resource decisions to enhance profitability.
  • Collaborate with Creative and Strategy & Analytics teams to meet client goals based on media trends.
  • Work with senior leaders to reinforce company culture and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, or strategic communications preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in public relations with a proven track record of high impact media relations results.
  • Client leadership/account management experience is desired.
  • Strong news judgment and creative thinking ability.
  • Excellent writing skills for news media materials.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in story development and media landscape knowledge.
  • Proficient in Google office, media databases, and project management programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Newsroom experience is helpful.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requests and directions.
  • Comfortable with honest, direct, and authentic communication.
