About the position

The Public Relations Manager at FINRA is responsible for providing both tactical and strategic communications support to enhance the organization's regulatory mission and business goals. This role involves crafting and managing various communications materials, collaborating with executives, and serving as a spokesperson. The manager will proactively identify media trends and challenges, prepare subject matter experts for interviews, and manage special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and manage press releases, media advisories, statements, briefing materials, and other multi-media materials for FINRA.
  • Collaborate closely with FINRA executives and key business partners on communications strategy.
  • Serve as a FINRA spokesperson on assigned areas.
  • Craft and execute communications plans, ensuring integration across various communications functions.
  • Proactively identify trends, opportunities, and challenges in media coverage and public commentary, developing recommended responses.
  • Prepare subject matter experts for media interviews.
  • Stay informed of the latest securities industry, compliance, and regulatory issues trends and developments.
  • Manage special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of public relations, communications, or media/journalism experience.
  • General knowledge of the securities industry and regulation.
  • Experience with leading projects and/or initiatives, effectively communicating with senior executives.
  • Demonstrated media relations skills, including the ability to assess inquiries and develop recommended responses.
  • Ability to exercise careful judgment and discretion with respect to strategic and confidential material.
  • Demonstrated superior writing, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to convey complex information in clear, engaging ways.
  • Adept at producing copy quickly and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and identify compelling stories from internal sources of information.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A creative, positive, and high-energy outlook with a hands-on mentality and excitement for learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/MS Office Suite applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • AP style familiarity and ability to work within FINRA's style guidelines.
