About the position

The Public Relations Manager at Mortenson will play a crucial role in shaping and enhancing the company's reputation through strategic communications. This position involves leading the development and execution of communication strategies that support the company's brand visibility and initiatives, while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, clients, and the public. Responsibilities

  • Drive external strategic communications by developing and implementing a communications plan that aligns with Mortenson's long-term goals.
  • Spearhead corporate public relations efforts to build and maintain strong relationships with media and industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with leadership to create and execute communication strategies that promote the brand and key initiatives externally.
  • Develop compelling content for media releases, industry reports, and public announcements.
  • Highlight major company-wide achievements and strategic updates to the public.
  • Support senior leadership in crafting and delivering key messages for external audiences.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of news and updates for external platforms, ensuring a consistent and engaging presence.
  • Explore and implement new channels and formats for reaching external audiences, such as social media campaigns and video content.
  • Help manage external crisis communications to maintain the company's reputation during challenging situations.
  • Develop and apply metrics to assess the impact of external communications strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Inspire and guide team members in effective external communication practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or a closely related specialty.
  • 7 or more years of experience in PR and Communications, ideally with a mix of agency and corporate experience.
  • Experience with B2B and professional services is highly desired.
  • Proven aptitude to develop effective communications programs in a competitive industry.
  • Superior writing skills and experience producing content for executive and business leaders.
  • High degree of knowledge with both traditional and emerging media.
  • Impeccable judgment and commitment to fact-based decision making.
  • Excellent software skills in graphic design and internet site management, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Ability to be creative while working within limited budgets.
  • Experience in the public relations field and oversight of a public relations function is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some knowledge of the construction industry is desirable; career experience in the construction industry is not required.
