About the position

Fizz is a social app that allows students to connect with their campus through a private and moderated feed of anonymous posts. As the first Public Relations Manager at Fizz, you will play a crucial role in managing and positively promoting our public image. This position involves collaborating closely with our leadership team to develop and implement media strategies and strategic content that effectively communicates our story. This is a new role within the company, presenting an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to shape our PR program and grow alongside us. The position is based onsite at our Palo Alto, CA office and reports directly to the CEO. Candidates must be currently located in the San Francisco Bay Area to be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with our objectives and marketing programs
  • Develop and implement PR strategies, plans, timelines, and news cycles that align with company goals
  • Handle US media relations, initiatives, and press releases
  • Manage press and placements, including media mentions, coverage reporting, and landscape monitoring
  • Identify, build, and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers
  • Proactively craft and pitch stories and secure media coverage
  • Lead the creation of strategic content, including written and video content, blogs, storylines, company statements, and more
  • Drive positioning and messaging for major company initiatives, and responses to key industry issues and news
  • Prepare and present regular reports on PR activities, media coverage, and campaign performance to leadership
  • Track, analyze, and monitor media coverage
  • Proactively respond to inquiries or potential crises
  • Help manage day-to-day relationship with external PR agency as needed

Requirements

  • 6+ years of related public relations experience, preferably with both in-house and PR agencies
  • Strong connections in the journalism and media world
  • Experience in a Social Media company is a distinct plus
  • Experience partnering closely with leadership to develop messaging and positioning, crafting storylines, press releases, and talking points
  • Experience creating content and creative assets that reach audiences across various channels
  • Strong experience working with business, trade, industry media outlets, and reporters
  • Self-starter who demonstrates creative and critical thinking abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in tech start-up environments preferred
  • Familiarity with trends in the college/university space a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
