About the position

The Public Relations and Media Manager at Brookfield Zoo Chicago plays a crucial role in supporting the Public Relations Director by executing day-to-day public relations initiatives. This position focuses on promoting the Zoo's events, programs, and conservation efforts while managing multimedia assets for effective communication. The role is integral to enhancing the Zoo's public image and fostering emotional connections with wildlife to inspire conservation action.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Public Relations with drafting press materials, building media lists, pitching media stories, and coordinating press conferences, media tours, and interviews.
  • Oversee media monitoring and data collection, tracking media coverage and developing PR results and analytic reports.
  • Conduct research on relevant topics and prepare reports to support public relations strategies and initiatives.
  • Support the integration of a digital asset management platform and build a new photo/video organization system.
  • Facilitate the sourcing and sharing of photo and video content for internal and external requests.
  • Provide writing support to Communications team members as needed.
  • Support internal communications initiatives, such as staff newsletters and emails.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Science, or related field required.
  • Two years' experience in a comparable public relations capacity required.
  • Fluency in English at a full professional proficiency level.
  • Strong familiarity with media relations and effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and media monitoring/database software programs.
  • Strong ability to prioritize workload and multi-task effectively.
  • Sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships.
  • Passion for wildlife conservation and environmental education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish writing and editing experience a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word highly desirable.
