About the position

The Public Relations Specialist - Advanced position at the State of New Mexico's Department of Cultural Affairs focuses on maintaining and enhancing the brand, identity, and reputation of the agency and its divisions. This role involves developing and implementing marketing, social media, and public relations strategies, serving as a spokesperson, and managing communications efforts to support various cultural initiatives and events.

Responsibilities

  • Build and implement marketing, social media, and public relations strategies for the divisions.
  • Serve as a designated spokesperson for the divisions and respond to media and public inquiries.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of advertising and promotional campaigns.
  • Maintain and manage content on websites and assist in ecommunications efforts.
  • Strategize and post content on social media platforms for the divisions.
  • Prepare and edit organizational publications for internal and external audiences.
  • Gauge public opinion through surveys, polls, and social media listening.
  • Develop communications strategies for exhibitions, education, outreach activities, and events.
  • Prepare and distribute news releases and media alerts, and cultivate relationships with media outlets.
  • Track, evaluate, and share results of PR and social media efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Publications, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in public relations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing social media platforms for organizations.
  • Familiarity with public opinion research methods.
  • Ability to develop press kit materials and plan media events.
