About the position

The Public Relations Specialist I at Utah State University is an entry-level position within the College of Engineering's communications team. The role focuses on creating editorial and promotional content that enhances the college's reputation in teaching, research, and outreach. This writing-intensive position requires strong communication skills and involves interviewing faculty, researchers, and students to develop engaging content for various platforms, including social media and marketing materials. The specialist will work closely with the marketing director and collaborate with a team that includes graphic designers and web developers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop media and information to publicize the College of Engineering, its departments, research centers, labs, and student and faculty success stories.
  • Develop content for everyday marketing materials such as web pages, reports, email marketing campaigns, video scripts, and recruiting and philanthropic initiatives.
  • Develop high quality social media content for the college and its academic and research units.
  • Lead the development of our annual alumni magazine by coordinating the production of themes, stories, interviews, photo sessions, and more, and coordinating layout and design efforts with the graphic designer.
  • Collaborate with University Marketing and Communications to disseminate information via news releases, press kits, and media pitches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, advertising, communications, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • At least one year experience in a professional media production environment.
