About the position

The Public Relations Specialist II serves as the Public Information Officer for the Department of Neighborhoods, responsible for developing and executing the department's communications strategy. This role involves crafting messaging for key programs, responding to media inquiries, and enhancing the department's social media presence. The specialist will also assist in creating marketing materials and ensuring the accuracy of information on the department's website.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated spokesperson for the department.
  • Respond to media inquiries and advise staff on media responses.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to inform the public and promote departmental programs and events.
  • Design marketing materials such as logos, fliers, brochures, and print ads.
  • Expand the use of social media channels for information dissemination and public relations cultivation.
  • Coordinate the development of informational materials like news releases and newsletters.
  • Prepare speeches and presentations for City officials.
  • Coordinate responses to public document requests and provide communication recommendations.
  • Advise on public relations issues and policy development.
  • Coordinate the preparation and distribution of various publications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in media, journalism, marketing, or public relations.
  • Three years of professional experience in media, journalism, marketing, or public relations.
