About the position

The Public Relations Specialist for Strategic Communications at Kennesaw State University plays a vital role in enhancing the reputation of the university's colleges and departments. This position involves developing strategic communication plans, writing various media content, and collaborating with university marketing and media relations to promote the institution's initiatives and successes. The specialist will work closely with deans and department heads to identify story ideas and maintain relationships with media stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develops written content, including feature stories, news releases, and media advisories, as well as blog posts and social media content.
• Proactively identifies and develops story ideas by building relationships with colleagues from various academic and administrative units.
• Leads media relations efforts for assigned college and/or departments.
• Provides strategic public relations counsel and serves as a liaison between the assigned college(s) and central communications office.
• Assists in the development and enhancement of the annual communications strategic plan.
• Develops and maintains relationships with reporters, producers, and other stakeholders.
• Works collaboratively with college and university partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field.
• Four (4) years of experience in Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Strong writing ability and knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with digital marketing and social media strategies.
• Familiarity with graphic design tools and software.
