About the position

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, a leading global law firm, is seeking a Public Relations Specialist to join their team. This role is pivotal in developing and executing the firm's public and media relations strategies, as well as managing day-to-day activities. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and creative thinker who can work seamlessly with all levels of the firm and engage effectively with key media contacts. The Public Relations Specialist will partner closely with the Director of Public Relations and other team members to enhance the firm's external communications across various practice areas and strategic initiatives. In this position, the Public Relations Specialist will manage communications and cultivate relationships with legal, trade, and business reporters in both regional and national markets. Responsibilities include pitching and arranging media interviews with key spokespersons, vetting inbound media opportunities, drafting talking points, and monitoring media coverage. The role also involves collaborating with key stakeholders to understand their public relations needs, developing content, and ensuring a cohesive internal and external content lifecycle. The specialist will identify and drive forward strategies, execute public relations plans, and support PR initiatives for select marketing campaigns. Additionally, tracking media coverage, producing reports, and sharing relevant media insights with internal stakeholders will be essential tasks. The specialist will also work closely with external PR agencies to identify and execute media opportunities that align with the firm's priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage communications and cultivate media relationships with legal, trade, and business reporters in regional and national markets.
  • Pitch and arrange media interviews with key spokespersons, vet inbound media opportunities, draft talking points, and monitor for media coverage.
  • Partner closely with key stakeholders to understand their public relations needs and work closely with them on content development.
  • Collaborate with social media, website, and internal communications teams to ensure the full internal and external content life cycle.
  • Identify and drive forward strategy; develop and execute public relations plans.
  • Support PR plans for select marketing campaigns as part of a broader campaign plan.
  • Track media coverage, produce media reports, and share relevant media coverage with internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the firm's external PR agencies on identifying and executing on media opportunities that align and amplify firm priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related marketing, communications, or journalism field.
  • 4 years of relevant professional experience in communications, media relations, or comparable discipline in a corporate setting.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally, including clients and media contacts.
  • Experience excelling in highly matrixed work environments across business units and functional teams.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with differing opinions and personalities.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Ability to act with a high degree of integrity, discretion, responsiveness, and superior reasoning skills.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and social media tools and resources.
