About the position

The Public Relations Specialist will provide strategic support to the communications team and the organization, focusing on enhancing social media visibility, drafting various communication materials, and managing public relations events. The role requires strong written and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, manage, and expand social media visibility on multiple platforms.
  • Lead the development of and draft materials such as press releases, planning documents, advisories, talking points, fact sheets, white papers, memos, annual reports, scripts, speeches, interview guides, collateral materials, monthly newsletter articles, media pitches, and website content.
  • Coordinate open records requests for the organization.
  • Plan, organize, and represent the organization at various media and public relations events.
  • Gather data, analyze information, and synthesize it for use in organizational materials.
  • Handle daily media monitoring and produce metric reports on media/social media coverage.
  • Provide communications and messaging support to senior leadership.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and help maintain the organization's brand, style, and voice.
  • Provide logistical/planning support for the organization's events/meetings.
  • Attend events, meetings, video shoots, and outreach events to support the organization's presence in the SWPA region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in public relations, in-house communications, government administration, non-profit organizations, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior use of a scheduling platform is a plus.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Hootsuite or Sprout, Canva, WordPress, media monitoring tools (e.g., TV Eyes, Critical Mention), and Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Relevant internships or volunteer experience may also be considered.
