About the position

The Public Relations Specialist at Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) plays a crucial role in enhancing community engagement and communication regarding utility service programs. This position involves coordinating internal and external communications, promoting a positive public image of FPUA, and supporting various marketing initiatives. The specialist will work closely with the Public Affairs & Sustainability Manager to ensure effective dissemination of information and maintain cohesive branding across all communications.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Public Affairs & Sustainability Manager in enhancing community engagement and communication of utility service programs.
• Coordinate internal and external communications focusing on utility-wide issues and community relations.
• Write and edit news releases and create marketing materials for FPUA initiatives.
• Support the preparation and distribution of FPUA publications, including reports and brochures.
• Manage FPUA's website and social media content, ensuring it is accurate and up-to-date.
• Respond to inquiries on FPUA's social media channels and manage media relations.
• Prepare press releases and media information packets regarding FPUA operations.
• Assist with coordinating public information for disasters and emergencies.
• Facilitate FPUA's contact with community organizations and keep them informed of services and activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• Five years of relevant work experience, preferably in the utility industry or public sector.
• Extensive knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
• Experience in project management and execution of public relation campaigns.
• Strong copywriting and editing skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Office and photo/video editing software.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in the utility industry or public sector is preferred.
