About the position

The Public Relations Specialist position is an entry-level communications role focused on producing and disseminating information about Henry County's programs and activities. The specialist will create press releases, newsletters, and social media content, while also working on more complex communications for county-wide initiatives. This role involves collaboration with executive management and the marketing team to maintain a cohesive public image.

Responsibilities

  • Creates print and online content to publicize County programs, facilities, events, or objectives.
  • Researches and verifies information for communications.
  • Attends meetings and writes/edit press releases, newsletters, and official announcements.
  • Monitors and publishes content for social media.
  • Submits content to supervisor for approval prior to publishing.
  • Writes, edits, and presents broadcast news programming for assigned events and stories.
  • Maintains graphic art and photo databases; takes, chooses, and edits photographs.
  • Processes documentation associated with department/division operations.
  • Serves as point-of-contact and media liaison for employees, the public, and media.
  • Collaborates with executive management and marketing team to ensure a cohesive public image.
  • Operates a personal computer and general office equipment to complete essential functions.
  • Communicates with supervisor and other County employees to coordinate work activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • One (1) year of related experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of local government operations and communications programs.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening meetings.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
