About the position

Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the IT Analyst position at the City of Rockwall is responsible for providing level-1 technical support to the Rockwall Police and Fire departments. This role encompasses a variety of tasks including the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of personal computers and related software/hardware, particularly focusing on in-car technology equipment. Additionally, the IT Analyst will support the City Radio System and will also extend support to the Fate DPS and Heath DPS regarding the New World Public Safety application and the radio system. The IT Analyst will be involved in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various software suites used by the Police and Fire departments, including mobile and CAD enterprise software, in-car video recording systems, body-worn cameras, mobile laptops, and VPN applications/servers. The role also includes managing user accounts in Microsoft Active Directory and maintaining an accurate inventory of hardware and software. As the level-1 helpdesk contact, the IT Analyst will assist employees with computer-related inquiries to enhance their knowledge and efficient use of the City's computer network and resources. The position requires punctuality and adherence to scheduled hours, with the ability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary. The IT Analyst will also perform project support and management as directed and assist other City IT staff on various tasks and projects. The role demands a strong understanding of IT systems, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with law enforcement agencies and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Provide level-1 technical support to Rockwall Police and Fire departments.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Police/Fire records and mobile CAD enterprise software suites.
  • Support in-car video recording systems and body-worn cameras.
  • Assist with mobile laptops and VPN applications/servers.
  • Manage user accounts in Microsoft Active Directory and public safety enterprise security applications.
  • Maintain accurate hardware and software inventory.
  • Act as the level-1 helpdesk contact for employee computer-related questions and problems.
  • Enhance employee knowledge and efficient use of the City's computer network and resources.
  • Report for work punctually and maintain a physical condition necessary for the proper performance of duties.
  • Perform project support and management as directed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in IT or related field.
  • 2-3 years' experience providing broad knowledge of computer, server, and network systems.
  • Ability to pass extensive background check.
  • Basic law enforcement knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016 and 2019, Office 365, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Basic understanding of IT security and network risks.
  • Efficient time management and task prioritization skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with superiors, customers, and the general public.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic law enforcement knowledge and experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Terminal Server environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
