About The Position

The Public Safety Officer at Aurora Zilber Hospice is a part-time position responsible for providing security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion. The officer will ensure safety and security through routine patrols, inspections, and responding to emergencies. The role requires maintaining a professional demeanor, compliance with safety regulations, and effective communication with patients, visitors, and team members. The position offers two schedule options, including weekend shifts, and requires a commitment to uphold the highest standards of security and safety in a healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area.
  • Illinois team members must have completed State of Illinois 20-hour Basic Security Officer course.
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) must be obtained within two years of appointment.
  • A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle.
  • Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license.
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion.
  • Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security.
  • Assists team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help.
  • Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence.
  • Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Investigates incidents that occur on Advocate Aurora property and completes timely and accurate reports.
  • Delivers security awareness education to team members.
  • Maintains current Department training standards in various security protocols.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement and first responder agencies.
