About the position

The Public Safety Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the public safety technology team, focusing on the development and training of team members. This role involves collaborating with various agencies to enhance their use of technology in emergency services, ensuring effective data sharing, and supporting the strategic goals of the City of Tuscaloosa. The position requires project management, system administration, and leadership to foster a competent public safety staff.

Responsibilities

  • Project manage, administer, and support systems used by Police, Fire/Rescue, and Municipal Court.
  • Perform Linux Systems Administration, including troubleshooting and maintaining interfaces among various public safety systems.
  • Develop and assist in the development of policies and procedures for the Public Safety Systems Team.
  • Work with vendors to influence product development to meet the needs of the City of Tuscaloosa.
  • Provide project leadership and supervision, directing and integrating the work of others.
  • Manage application software, application infrastructure, and third-party application environments.
  • Supervise and lead software upgrades, patches, integrations, application-specific security, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor system processes and coordinate work with other analysts.
  • Assist in the development of a competent and effective public safety staff by supervising and monitoring productivity and skill levels.
  • Participate in goal setting and promote the professional development of Systems Analysts and Programmer/Analysts.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of internal documentation and standards.
  • Assist in the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants.
  • Manage disaster prevention and recovery efforts and create risk management plans.
  • Demonstrate punctual, regular, and reliable attendance; perform 24-hour on-call service rotations as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the information technology field.
  • Valid driver's license.
