About the position

The Public Safety Telecommunicator I position at the Kentucky State Police serves as a critical link between law enforcement officers and the information necessary for effective operations. This role involves answering emergency calls, dispatching personnel, and providing pre-arrival instructions during medical emergencies. The position requires flexibility in scheduling due to the 24-hour nature of operations and includes comprehensive training to ensure readiness for the responsibilities involved.

Responsibilities

• Answer radio and telephone calls, including 911 in designated areas.
• Gather and relay pertinent information from each communication.
• Dispatch calls to police and other emergency management personnel.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions during medical emergencies.
• Operate the Computer Aided Dispatching system (CAD).
• Utilize law enforcement systems nationwide to assist troopers and detectives with investigations.

Requirements

• High school graduate.
• Must obtain certification as LINK/NCIC Operator within thirty days of employment.
• Must obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher within sixty days of employment.
• Must obtain certification as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) within twelve months of employment.
• Shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540.
