About the position

The Public Safety Wellness Clinician serves as a licensed behavioral health clinician within the City of Irving's First Responders' Wellness Unit. This part-time role focuses on providing mental health support to first responders and their families, including assessment, treatment, and referrals. The clinician will also assist peer support teams, conduct training, and follow up on referrals, all while working in high-stress environments and non-traditional hours.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to, assess, triage, and provide treatment and/or referrals for first responders and their families.
  • Assist peer support teams by providing clinical oversight of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) interventions.
  • Assess behavioral health care needs of first responders and their families experiencing crisis or immediate care needs.
  • Provide training and education related to first responders' wellness and develop educational programs.
  • Conduct active and assertive follow-ups to determine the outcome of referrals and provide additional advocacy as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent in counseling, social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • Three years of related experience in the mental health field, specifically with first responders.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychology Associate (LPA), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or psychology license required.
  • Must have or be able to acquire Critical Incident Stress Management Certification.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained (minimum).
  • Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC) certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) beneficial.
