About the position

The Assistant Certification Counsel for Sangamon County serves under the direction of the Chief Certification Counsel, providing legal advice and guidance on certification matters for law enforcement officers. This role requires effective communication, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The position is integral to maintaining high professional standards within the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Board's Assistant Certification Counsel in Sangamon County.
• Administer and implement policies concerning legal matters regarding certification of law enforcement officers.
• Provide legal advice and guidance to the Professional Standards Division management and staff.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Possession of a current and valid Illinois law license.
• Three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or a closely related field.
• Three years or more of experience in criminal litigation.
• Three years or more of experience working with judicial procedures.
• Three years or more of experience working with the rules of evidence.
• Three years or more of work experience participating in hearings and trial proceedings.
• One year or more of prior work history requiring a thorough understanding of State and Federal law as applicable to criminal justice.
