About the position

The Public Transit Community Engagement & Planning Support Specialist at AMMA Transit Planning, Inc. is a part-time role focused on enhancing public transportation services through community engagement and planning support. This position involves working closely with clients across the Western United States, leading public outreach initiatives, managing public meetings, and contributing to planning reports and proposals. The role offers flexible hours and the potential for full-time work, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and community interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Design public input plans regarding transportation needs and present to clients, revising as necessary.
  • Implement market research strategies to assess viewpoints of public transit riders and non-riders.
  • Conduct qualitative public participation engagements with project stakeholders and the broader community.
  • Create and implement quantitative public input opportunities, including online surveys and data extraction.
  • Document public input and develop written findings on transportation needs, gaps, and opportunities, particularly from qualitative comments.
  • Frame recommendations based on public input and findings.
  • Develop and conduct meetings, workshops, and public hearings, including preparing agendas and contributing to meeting content.
  • Maintain databases and contact lists for information dissemination.
  • Create promotional materials for meetings and oversee graphics and creative work.
  • Write up meeting input, framing themes and findings for reports.
  • Contribute written analyses and materials for planning reports, including both quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Manage the compilation of quantitative transit performance data for quarterly reporting.
  • Assist in proposal preparation, including content development and participation in proposal interviews.
  • Help develop project websites and curate content for them, maintaining AMMA's website in collaboration with a web developer.

Requirements

  • Experience in community engagement and public outreach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong writing skills and experience in written communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with InDesign is optional.
  • Experience with online survey tools like Survey Monkey or Mailchimp is desirable but optional.
  • Social media literacy is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the public transportation industry is optional but desirable.
  • Residence in Southern California, preferably in or near the Inland Empire is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish language capability is desirable.
