The City of Stockton is seeking a Public Works Inspector to oversee and inspect construction work performed within the City right of way and on City infrastructure. This role ensures compliance with City Standards, the Stockton Municipal Code, and project requirements, while working under general supervision. The position involves independent decision-making and judgment in performing inspections on various public and private infrastructure projects.

  • Inspect a variety of public construction projects for compliance with contract documents.
  • Inspect the construction and remodeling of City facilities and public buildings.
  • Inspect materials used in construction, including concrete mix and placement.
  • Use measuring tools to determine dimensions and calculate volumes.
  • Prepare progress reports, change orders, and maintain field records.
  • Meet with utility companies, contractors, and the public to address complaints and requests.
  • Monitor contractor safety practices and conduct on-site accident investigations.
  • Coordinate work between City staff and contractors on joint projects.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and codes to contractors and City staff.
  • Perform cursory and constructability reviews of improvement plans.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of experience in engineering, construction, or technical engineering support, including construction inspection and surveying.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Valid Grade D1 or higher Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board within one year of classification.
  • College level coursework in engineering or a related subject.
  • Sign on Bonus - $2,000

  • Future salary increases including a 3% Cost of Living Adjustment effective 7/1/2025
  • $2,000 lump sum for employees employed as of 7/1/2025
