About the position

We're looking for an analytical and detail-oriented transportation enthusiast to take on the role of Public Works Intern in the Transportation Division. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, and will be provided high-level support and training within the Public Works Department. The selected individual must be able to work on-site at the City of Mountain View City Hall with the internship starting in May or June 2025. This is a part-time paid position, up to 29 hours per week and does not include benefits. The Intern position is a temporary assignment through Summer 2025. These positions include flexible scheduling and college/university credit may be provided, as applicable. Interns receive direction and guidance from an intern host who is part of the management staff.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cutting edge research on Transportation Demand Management (TDM) to support development of a Citywide TDM ordinance, aimed at reducing drive alone trips and encouraging multimodal transportation
  • Carry out fieldwork and data analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other tools
  • Develop scooter share permit requirements, collaborate with other agencies, and help implement and monitor a bike and scooter share pilot program
  • Undertake transit planning and performance analysis of the Mountain View Community Shuttle and MVgo services
  • Support efforts to monitor TDM requirements for existing projects in the City.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at or recently graduated from an accredited college or university in City Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
