About the position

The Public Works Public Relations Manager is responsible for managing public relations, marketing, and educational initiatives for the assigned department. This role involves serving as the spokesperson, developing and implementing communication strategies, and maintaining relationships with media and community stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to public outreach and collaboration with various departments to enhance the department's visibility and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as spokesperson for the assigned department and respond to media inquiries.
  • Manage relationships with media contacts and develop public relations opportunities.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases and maintain web and social media accounts.
  • Coordinate public outreach programs and make presentations to community groups.
  • Assist with department activities, including budget preparation and economic impact analysis.
  • Design and evaluate marketing and community relations plans in collaboration with division managers.
  • Conduct market research to assess audiences and discover new marketing opportunities.
  • Perform basic administrative duties including written reports and vendor communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or Communications preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in public relations, marketing, or communications.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
