The Public Works Uncertified position at Tremonton City involves performing a variety of tasks that require the use of hand tools and heavy equipment. The role is essential for the maintenance, construction, and repair of utility systems, including streets, water transmission, and wastewater collection. Employees in this position will operate equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and dump trucks, and will be responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and storing assigned tools and equipment. The job requires participation in work site safety procedures and the ability to work in multiple Public Works Departments as needed. In the Streets department, the employee will operate specialized heavy equipment, perform cement work, patch chuck holes, and maintain roadways. Responsibilities also include setting up safety signs and barricades, and possibly performing flagging assignments to ensure work zone safety. In the Water department, tasks include the installation and repair of water service connections, reading water meters, and responding to public complaints regarding water issues. The Sewer department duties involve maintenance and repairs of the sewer collection system, while the Storm Water department focuses on cleaning and inspecting storm and sub-drain systems. The position requires physical strength and endurance, as employees will frequently lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions. The role is classified as safety sensitive and requires the employee to be on-call for after-hours situations. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one year of experience using manual tools. The employee must also become a Level 2 Certified Operator within 18 months of hire and possess a valid Utah driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of entry level skilled duties related to construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems including streets, water transmission, and distribution and wastewater collection.
  • Operate and care for assigned equipment.
  • Participate in work site safety procedures.
  • Use hand tools and equipment to perform repair work throughout the City.
  • Work in multiple Public Works Departments as needed.
  • Operate specialized heavy equipment such as dump trucks, road graders, and snow plows.
  • Perform cement work on flat surfaces, curbs, and gutters.
  • Patch chuck holes, transport road materials, and maintain roadways.
  • Set up barricades, safety signs, and signal equipment.
  • Perform installation or repair of water service connections, water lines, and meters.
  • Repair or replace fire hydrants and plugged water meters.
  • Conduct water sampling and read residential and commercial water meters.
  • Perform sewer collection system maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspect manholes and sewer lines and open clogged sewer lines using various pipe cleaning equipment.
  • Clean storm and sub-drains and document the condition of all storm and sub-drain systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One (1) year of experience involving the use of manual tools.
  • Must become Level 2 Certified Operator within 18 months from date of hire.
  • Must have a valid Utah driver's license.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must have a commercial driver's license (CDL) or be willing to acquire one at own expense within 3 months of hire date.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Must successfully pass ongoing drug testing.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical is required.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check is required.
