About the position

The Publications Editor position within the Division of Geological Survey at the State of Ohio is designed for individuals who are passionate about editing and proofreading scientific and informational materials. This role involves conducting thorough editing for various publications, maintaining the Division's website, and representing the Division at public events. The position offers a starting hourly pay of $26.72, with potential increases over the first seven years of service, culminating at $35.31 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical editing and proofreading for all Division publications, including open-file reports, maps, website content, and social media.
  • Coordinate and maintain content of the Division website.
  • Research, write, and edit scientific/informational materials, news releases, web content, and social media content.
  • Facilitate the printing of publications, including writing printing specifications and conducting press checks.
  • Represent the Division at meetings, conferences, and outreach events.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in writing informational materials, including editing, photography, layout, and design, and 1 course or 3 months of experience in typing or word processing.
  • Completion of undergraduate program core coursework in journalism, communication, or English, and 12 months of experience in writing informational materials, including editing, photography, layout, and design, and 1 course or 3 months of experience in typing or word processing.
  • 12 months of experience as Information Writer 2, 64412, or equivalent qualifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with social media content creation and management.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical topics and terminology.
