About the position

The Publicist at Berkley will develop and execute creative publicity strategies for a diverse range of commercial fiction releases. This role involves managing publicity campaigns for both high-profile and debut authors, working closely with authors and the in-house publishing team to maximize exposure and engagement with media outlets.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute publicity campaigns for Berkley titles to maximize author and book exposure while managing the campaign budget.
  • Pitch and secure coverage with top national and regional TV, radio/podcast, and online media.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with press members and seek out new media outlets.
  • Execute successful virtual events and in-person multi-city author tours, including managing travel arrangements and local media pitching.
  • Write pitch letters, press releases, and other creative press materials.
  • Collaborate with the publicity team, authors, agents, booksellers, and key in-house departments such as editorial, marketing, and sales.
  • Perform general department responsibilities and represent the imprint at various meetings and industry events.
  • Work closely with authors on publicity aspects, providing updates and guidance for interviews.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in publicity.
  • A passion for fiction.
  • Established national and regional media contacts including TV, radio/podcast, and online media.
  • Established relationships with bookstores are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong public presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Creative and strategic thinker, proactive and persuasive.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
