About The Position

The Purchasing Agent at the US Veterans Health Administration is responsible for conducting purchasing activities, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and providing procurement support to meet the needs of the organization. This role involves reviewing purchase requests, resolving discrepancies, and serving as a primary contact for medical staff regarding procured items. Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service.
  • Experience performing clerical or assistant duties in support of purchasing and procurement.
  • Ability to procure supplies and services to meet organizational needs.
  • Experience working with medical staff to determine procurement needs and priorities.
  • Skill in resolving shipment, payment, or other discrepancies in procurement programs.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software programs such as MS Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated computerized supply/inventory management systems.
  • Familiarity with federal procurement regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct purchasing under the micro purchase threshold and review purchase requests.
  • Resolve issues to ensure requests and bills are processed accurately and timely.
  • Utilize federal and agency acquisition regulations to identify sources for purchases.
  • Track obligations and monitor expenditures to support budget forecasts and identify potential fraud.
  • Procure supplies and services to meet the organization's needs, including rental or lease requirements.
  • Develop unique selection criteria for each purchase and prepare contract modifications as needed.
  • Serve as the first line of contact for medical staff regarding procured items and develop reports and spreadsheets.
  • Perform various administrative duties including receptionist tasks, timekeeping, and record keeping.
