Purchasing Agent

About the position

The Purchasing Agent for the Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center is responsible for making purchases of medical equipment, supplies, and services to meet patient-specific needs. This role involves coordinating with various departments, adhering to federal regulations, and ensuring that procurement processes are efficient and compliant. The position requires a strong understanding of purchasing methods and the ability to evaluate vendor proposals effectively.

Responsibilities

• Make purchases of equipment, commodities, and services using standard methods.
• Determine additional information needed to support or complete purchase requests.
• Coordinate with requesting offices to obtain necessary information for purchase requests.
• Perform technical level purchasing support adhering to relevant directives and policies.
• Determine if requests can be met from Government sources or appropriate commercial sources.
• Prepare synopses for Commerce Business Daily and develop Requests for Quotation.
• Solicit competitive offers and evaluate responses to bids and requests for proposals.
• Document all recommendations and actions taken during the purchasing process.
• Compile statistics and prepare reports on purchasing activities.
• Prepare purchase award documentation.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 for GS-5 position.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 for GS-6 position.
• Knowledge of solicitation and purchasing methods.
• Experience using a VA issued credit card for purchases.
• Ability to work and negotiate with requestors, technical representatives, and vendors.
