About the position

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for coordinating the procurement of commodities, equipment, services, and contracts within a healthcare environment. This role involves investigating alternatives, reviewing cost-effectiveness, soliciting bids, and negotiating with vendors, all while adhering to internal policies and procedures. The position is a contract role for 13 weeks, requiring a hybrid work schedule with two days on-site each week.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the purchase of commodities, equipment, services, and contracts as assigned.
• Investigate alternatives and review cost-effectiveness of purchases.
• Solicit bids and negotiate with vendors to obtain the best value for money.
• Develop cooperative working relationships with Health System personnel and vendors.
• Expedite, verify orders, and resolve purchasing discrepancies.
• Prepare cost savings reports and other reports using business mathematics and Excel spreadsheets.
• Maintain purchasing-related databases and generate relevant reports.

Requirements

• Procurement experience in a hospital environment.
• ERP expertise, preferably with Oracle or SAP.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, with courses in purchasing, business law, economics, or marketing, or comparable experience.
• Two years of experience as a buyer in a healthcare facility or comparable experience/education.
• Strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with Health System personnel and vendors.
• Ability to calculate discounts and prepare cost savings reports.
• Familiarity with computerized purchasing systems and basic keyboard skills (40-50 wpm).
• Extensive use of spreadsheet and database programs.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong experience in contract management and sourcing.
• ERP knowledge, particularly with Oracle Cloud.
