About the position

The Purchasing Buyer is responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and supplies to meet the company's operational needs. This role involves evaluating vendor offerings, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring compliance with contracts while optimizing purchasing decisions based on demand forecasting and internal feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase materials, equipment, and supplies based on company needs.
  • Evaluate and negotiate with vendors to secure the best quality, price, and service.
  • Manage supplier relationships, including quality and delivery performance.
  • Forecast demand and monitor material assets to optimize purchasing decisions.
  • Incorporate feedback from internal teams and suppliers to reduce product variability and control costs.
  • Develop requests for quotations (RFQs) and proposals, analyze supplier responses, and negotiate terms.
  • Oversee day-to-day supplier activities, ensuring compliance with contracts and performance expectations.
  • Expedite delivery of equipment and supplies as needed to meet company demands.
  • Engage with suppliers strategically to optimize partnerships and support company goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Engineering, Sales, and Procurement to align on job requirements.
  • Interface with internal and external customers, colleagues, and suppliers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Prepare and manage RFQs to obtain competitive bids from approved sources.
  • Drive and implement changes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Control operating cash flow and use contract terms to recover supplier-induced costs.
  • Resolve conflicts effectively and coach suppliers toward better performance.
  • Accept responsibility for finding solutions to unexpected challenges or issues.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business preferred, or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in purchasing or buying, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
