About the position

The Purchasing Department Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing Lagoon's procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. This role involves strategic sourcing, vendor management, negotiation, budgeting, and overall successful management of the purchasing, tool crib, warehouse and food purchasing teams. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with other departments to optimize supply chain operations and contribute to the Company's overall financial and operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for directing, supervising, strategic planning, organizing, training, evaluating and participating in the operation of the purchasing, warehouse, tool crib and food purchasing teams.
  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, supplies, products, services, etc. and proposes acceptable substitutions when applicable.
  • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
  • Prepares and processes purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Drafts, explains, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
  • Evaluates and approves conditions for issuing and awarding bids.
  • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintains and/or implements purchasing and recordkeeping systems.
  • Acts as the Company's representative in negotiations with vendors and suppliers.
  • Administers the departmental budgets including labor budgets.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and ethics when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as inventory software systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field with coursework in purchasing and/or inventory control management is appreciated.
  • At least five years of buying or purchasing experience required with supervisory experience preferred.
