About the position

The Purchasing-Inventory Clerk position at Cyanotech is a full-time, non-exempt role focused on managing all purchasing and buying activities related to raw materials, supplies, and services. The clerk is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of batch records, inventory worksheets, and system postings, all in compliance with company procedures and policies. This role also includes providing backup and support to the warehousing and logistics department as needed. The hourly wage for this position ranges from $20 to $23, depending on experience and qualifications. In this role, the clerk will process purchase order (PO) requisitions accurately and efficiently, collaborating closely with the Logistics department to identify the most cost-effective shipping methods. Maintaining the integrity of purchase orders and ensuring accurate delivery dates for open orders is crucial. The clerk will also be responsible for obtaining all necessary Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) documentation, such as Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and equipment verification forms, during the vendor setup and product delivery processes. Additionally, the clerk will maintain vendor records, work with the Accounting department to reconcile invoice discrepancies, and coordinate return authorizations. The Purchasing-Inventory Clerk will assist with receiving and moving raw materials, supplies, and finished goods, including picking up and delivering materials from local vendors. Training will be provided for forklift certification and TSA certification for airport deliveries. The clerk will identify inventory control opportunities and implement corrective adjustments in collaboration with the Operations and Finance teams. Monthly inventory reporting and validation of incoming and usage variances will also be part of the responsibilities. Excellent internal and external customer service is expected, along with effective communication with vendors to research the best pricing options.

Responsibilities

  • Processes PO requisitions accurately in a timely and effective manner

  • Responsible for communicating with vendors to research best pricing
  • Provides excellent internal and external customer service
  • Assists and supports in the resolution and documentation of Material Control issues
  • Reviews Purchasing and Inventory Control SOP for accuracy as needed
  • Performs other duties and projects that may be assigned

Requirements

  • H. S. Diploma, or Associate's Degree in business, accounting or other relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Driver license
  • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills
  • Some previous purchasing and inventory control experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency with PC-based computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented with proven follow-up skills
  • Ability to conduct web searches for purchasing of products
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills
  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
