About the position

The Purchasing/Inventory Control Manager will oversee all aspects of purchasing and inventory control for a growing manufacturer of complex marine deck machinery. This newly created role is responsible for managing a significant annual spend, ensuring compliance with company policies, and maintaining effective procurement processes. The position requires collaboration with various departments to ensure timely delivery of materials and to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of MRP planning parameters using Oracle and NetSuite software.
  • Manage the procurement process from requisition to delivery, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies for procuring and storing goods.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock and minimize waste.
  • Place purchase orders with suppliers for the procurement of production material as required by MRP, production schedule, and aftermarket demands.
  • Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution of potential problems.
  • Expedite or defer orders as required based on schedule.
  • Coordinate material flows throughout BOM changes, obsolescence, and the introduction of new suppliers or materials due to new product development.
  • Manage and resolve issues regarding PO to invoice discrepancies, returns, and quality problems with suppliers.
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and lead time accuracy.
  • Generate and issue reports to key leaders to advise of deviations in delivery dates.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Timely and precise processing of purchase orders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a buyer or purchasing manager function.
  • Experience with NetSuite and/or Oracle preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Sound time management skills, strong sense of urgency, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in production and inventory control.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience procuring engineered systems for machinery such as Drives, Motors, Gears, etc. preferred.
  • Comfortable interacting with engineering groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of commonly used procurement concepts, practices, and procedures.
