About the position

The Purchasing/Logistics Manager plays a critical role in the procurement and logistics operations essential to the manufacturing process. This position is responsible for ensuring that materials, equipment, and services are procured efficiently and effectively, aligning with production schedules and customer demands to guarantee on-time delivery. The manager will lead cost-saving initiatives, negotiate contracts with suppliers, and develop strong relationships with key vendors to secure the best deals while maintaining quality standards. In addition to purchasing responsibilities, the Purchasing/Logistics Manager will oversee logistics operations, managing personnel to ensure accurate validations, shipments, and receipts through the ERP system. This includes maintaining inventory accuracy for raw materials and supplies, implementing metrics to track departmental performance, and ensuring compliance with shipping regulations and customs requirements. The role requires a proactive approach to resolving issues related to shipment delays, damage, or discrepancies, and involves collaboration with the Sales department to facilitate new quotes based on material pricing. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in purchasing and logistics management, particularly within a manufacturing environment, and will be adept at analyzing market trends to anticipate material price changes. This position demands excellent negotiation skills, a solid understanding of supply chain processes, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Leadership and team management experience are also essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Align inventory purchases/receipts with production schedules and customer demands to ensure On Time Delivery.
  • Lead cost-saving initiatives on raw materials as well as all other purchases.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to secure the best deals while maintaining quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Evaluate supplier performance scorecards and manage relationships to ensure the timely delivery of materials.
  • Analyze market trends to anticipate material price changes and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Assess and onboard new suppliers as needed, ensuring they meet company standards.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure all purchases comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead negotiations for new equipment, energy, and contractual purchases.
  • Collaborate with the Sales department on material pricing to facilitate new quotes.
  • Provide regular reports on cost metrics, supplier performance, and inventory status.
  • Optimize Purchase Order submission and entry process for all other purchases.
  • Manage Logistics personnel to ensure accurate validations, shipments, and receipts through our ERP system.
  • Oversee raw material blending, staging to work centers, and re-inventory process.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy for raw materials and supplies.
  • Implement and track metrics highlighting departmental performance.
  • Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and customs requirements.
  • Manage relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Resolve any issues related to shipment delays, damage, or discrepancies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in purchasing and logistics management, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of supply chain processes and logistics.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems - Enterprise IQ a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and team management experience.
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards and/or plastic resins a plus.
