About the position

The Purchasing Manager for Food at Pasona N A, Inc. is responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies that align with the company's business objectives. This role involves negotiating with vendors, managing food safety programs, overseeing quality control, and coordinating with purchasing employees across locations. The position requires bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese, along with strong management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies to support the Company's business objectives.
  • Negotiate with vendors for the best possible price and service guarantee.
  • Research and develop products for the Company to increase sales and revenue.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming demand and develop new supply sources if necessary.
  • Review inventory and investigate discrepancies.
  • Manage and develop food safety programs for hazard analysis, sanitation, recall, etc.
  • Oversee quality control and ensure compliance with government food safety standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate with purchasing employees in other locations to negotiate discounts for bulk purchases and optimize efficiency.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff in the department.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department and provide constructive and timely feedback, training, and coaching.
  • Attend Company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Japanese (business level proficiency required).
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Intermediate mathematical knowledge for markups, discounts, and inventory counting.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and people management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes highly preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $75,000 to $99,000 per year depending on experience.
