About the position

The Purchasing Manager at the John B. Hynes Veteran Memorial Convention Center is responsible for ensuring product availability, quality, and cost-effectiveness while delivering exceptional service. This role involves maintaining strong vendor partnerships, meeting operational product needs, and evaluating new products to enhance standards and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain 'show quality' of all areas at all times
  • Understand all menus, product offerings, packaging, and pricing
  • Establish rapport with team members, management, and partners
  • Employ good safety and sanitation practices
  • Practice proper product control and handling of all inventory and equipment
  • Achieve daily sales and assigned cost goals
  • Achieve assigned budget goals
  • Contribute to required daily reporting
  • Assist in compiling information at month-end closing
  • Ensure team members adhere to Levy Company guidelines
  • Thoroughly and accurately use applicable Levy systems (BOSS, Point-of-sale, WFM, etc.)
  • Ensure that all security, safety, and sanitation standards are achieved
  • Ensure all products are properly stored, rotated, and dated
  • Monitor inventory procedures for accountability
  • Use performance management tools to provide guidance and feedback to team
  • Promote a cooperative work climate, maximizing productivity and morale
  • Interview, hire, train, and develop team members according to Levy guidelines
  • Display a positive attitude towards team members.

Requirements

  • Effective communication skills with management, guests, and team members in English
  • English reading, writing, math, and computer skills
  • Ability to taste and evaluate food and beverage products
  • Ability to perform diverse physical tasks
  • Stamina to work 60 hours or more per week
  • Ability to work extended shifts of 10 hours or more as business dictates
  • Flexibility with schedule and ability to work different shifts
  • Ability to reach, lift, stoop, bend, and perform extensive standing and walking throughout the shift
  • Ability to use hands for office equipment, including computer systems
  • Ability to talk and hear for phone correspondence.
