About the position

Ash Grove Cement, a CRH company, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee and manage purchasing and inventory control activities at our Louisville, NE location. This role is crucial in ensuring that the necessary supplies and materials are procured efficiently to support our operations. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for establishing job responsibilities for storeroom employees, supervising the purchasing process, and maintaining inventory levels in accordance with operational needs. The position requires collaboration with other department managers to assess material requirements and execute purchasing activities that align with those needs. In this role, you will negotiate with vendors to secure cost-effective purchasing transactions while ensuring high quality and timely delivery of materials. You will also manage inventory and equipment records in the Avantis database, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information. The Purchasing Manager will be tasked with preparing reports on purchasing activities, managing invoices, and ensuring compliance with purchasing policies. Additionally, you will provide support and training to the Accounts Payable clerk as needed. This position is essential for maintaining the operational efficiency of our plant and ensuring that all purchasing activities are conducted in accordance with company guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities to storeroom employees.
  • Supervises and executes the purchase of supplies and materials for operation and maintains a specified level of inventory in the storeroom.
  • Collaborates with other department managers to discuss material and other supply requirements.
  • Conducts purchasing activities to meet material requirements.
  • Reviews and corrects problematic invoices.
  • Processes and submits purchase orders for filing; monitors status of open purchase orders.
  • Negotiates with vendors to achieve cost-effective purchasing transactions while maximizing quality, customer service, and desired delivery times.
  • Manages inventory and equipment in the Avantis database to ensure part numbers are accurate and inventory records are updated.
  • Manages the verification and approval process and receives reports.
  • Maintains updated records of daily purchasing activities through Bentley software.
  • Participates in plant programs and meetings.
  • Heads Inventory Leadership team for review of stocking levels and inventory management.
  • Manages the Purchasing process per Company guidelines.
  • Monitors service vendors' contractual and insurance requirements to meet established compliance levels through Avetta.
  • Prepares reports regarding purchasing activities.
  • Ensures that purchase orders are signed and authorized by required personnel.
  • Manages invoices and transactions to prevent the occurrence of Received Not Invoiced (RNI) outside the normal transaction lead time.
  • Mandates and ensures that purchasing policies are followed for both procurement and inventory management.
  • Provides support and training for the Accounts Payable clerk where applicable.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing in a similar position at an industrial manufacturer or in a related industry required.
  • C.P.M., CPIM, or CPSM certification preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
