About the position

The Purchasing Manager at D.R. Horton will oversee the Purchasing Department, managing all sourcing for equipment, goods, and services. This role involves strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, seeking the best contracts, and identifying the most profitable suppliers and vendors. The Purchasing Manager will also be responsible for managing a team, developing purchasing strategies, and ensuring effective vendor management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Purchasing Department and all sourcing for equipment, goods, and services.
  • Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies.
  • Manage the bid process for architectural plans to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation.
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes in buyer-supplier power.
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks.
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
  • Create budgets for upcoming projects.
  • Manage costs of existing projects.
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration.
  • Five to eight years of related experience as a Purchasing Manager, Agent, or Officer.
  • Proven experience with sourcing, negotiation, and vendor management.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data.
  • Strong leadership skills and networking capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Regular interest in market dynamics along with business sense.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience and knowledge in JD Edwards.
