About the position

The Purchasing Manager at Lunds & Byerlys is responsible for overseeing all ingredient and packaging purchasing activities for manufacturing. This role includes managing supply chains, inventory, contracts, and supplier performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining cost efficiency in procurement processes. The position emphasizes leadership, team development, and effective communication to support the company's operational goals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all ingredient and packaging purchasing activities for manufacturing.
• Hire, train, and develop team members, including performance evaluations and management.
• Coach, mentor, and lead direct reports to achieve location and personal goals.
• Develop and centrally manage the procurement of goods and materials.
• Establish standard costs for all ingredients and packaging.
• Maintain purchase price variances within established guidelines.
• Manage procurement activities to support manufacturing facilities.
• Negotiate buying contracts to achieve the lowest cost of goods while maintaining inventory levels.
• Source suppliers and establish order quantities and shipping arrangements.
• Ensure compliance with buying agreements and monitor product pricing.
• Review purchase agreements and supplier performance regularly.
• Analyze financial performance reports to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Assist with the annual budget and manage monthly inventory processes.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, OSHA, AIB, and good manufacturing practices.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in management, general business, logistics, or equivalent experience.
• Food safety, HACCP, and forklift certifications required.
• APICS certification preferred.
• Four or more years of supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience in food manufacturing, purchasing, or buying.

Nice-to-haves

• First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
